Badan Gruk
A Dal Honese sergeant of the Bonehunters who enlisted out of love for Sinter, prefers moonless nights and staying alive to fighting, and carries a tusk-carved vethbela on his back.
Badan Gruk is sergeant of the 5th squad, 8th Legion, 3rd Company of the Bonehunters, a Dal Honese out of the Forest Horn. He is short and wide, his skin as black as a Tiste Andii's, the folds of his eyes so pronounced that almost none of the white shows, and since he rarely smiles he can all but disappear on a dark night, which is the kind he prefers. He stands at least a head shorter than most of the soldiers around him. He followed Sinter into the Malazan military because he is infatuated with her, and he knows perfectly well it is a losing proposition, since she enlisted only to keep watch over her sister Kisswhere. He has no appetite for fighting and a great deal of interest in staying alive. On his back, in a deer-hide harness, he carries a vethbela: a two-handed Dal Honese sickle sword carved from tusk, handled in ivory, with thin otataral blades set into both curved edges.
