Aren is a place in Seven Cities that fell in the Empire's war there, and the breach at Aren heads the list of Whiskeyjack's campaigns in the Emperor's time.
In the Emperor's time Aren falls to the Malazans in the War of Seven Cities, and with it the Holy Falah'd are scattered. Whiskeyjack's war record runs through the breach at Aren, and Hairlock, a sorcerer who fought the Empire in Seven Cities before entering its service, recalls a game of cat and mouse there with Tayschrenn.
