Aranatha
One of the young Tiste Andii of Drift Avalii, of Anomander Rake's line, silver-eyed and quietly hopeful in a way her kin find baffling, and devoted to her clever cousin Kedeviss.
Long black hair, black skin, and silver startled eyes that hint at an iron which never quite appears: Aranatha is one of the young Tiste Andii who grew up on the drifting island of Drift Avalii, a daughter or granddaughter of Anomander Rake. Their uncle Andarist kept her there in safety alongside Nimander, Phaed, Skintick, Kedeviss, Nenanda and Desra, for as long as the island stayed beyond the reach of the Tiste Edur and their search for the Throne of Shadow. Nimander finds her hopes foolish and says so, likening her to some Goddess of Hope whose only strength lies in an optimism immune to defeat, and immune to reality besides. She loves Kedeviss dearly, and admires her for a cleverness and a percipience she does not claim for herself.
