Woodland Realm

The Woodland Realm is the kingdom of the Wood-elves in the great forest of Mirkwood, in the wide country of Rhovanion east of the Misty Mountains. Its people are Silvan Elves, descended from the Nandor and the Avari who settled those woods in the Elder Days; they are reckoned less learned than the Elves of the West and more dangerous to strangers. After the wars of the Elder Days a Sindarin prince named Oropher, who had dwelt in Doriath, came east into the forest, then called Greenwood the Great. The Wood-elves received him gladly, for they held King Thingol to be distant kin, and they took him for their king. His first seat was the hill of Amon Lanc in the south of the forest, but he later moved north. By the time of The Hobbit the realm is ruled by Thranduil, and it is the last Elven kingdom in Middle-earth still to have a king.
