The Wainriders are Easterling peoples of Rhûn in the appendices to The Lord of the Rings, named for the great wagons they fight from.
The Wainriders are a confederation of Easterling peoples, most of them out of Rhûn, described in the appendices to The Lord of the Rings. They take their name from the great wagons and chariots, called wains, in which they travel and fight. United by a shared hatred of Gondor and stirred up against it by Sauron, they begin raiding the kingdom's eastern lands in the middle of the Third Age.
