Valinor is a land across the sea in the far West, sung of by the Elves, the land of the Two Trees whose ancient light lives on only in the silmarilli.
In the song Bilbo makes in Rivendell, the mariner Eärendil crosses dark seas until he sees a silent Mountain rise in the twilight of Valinor, with Elvenhome beyond. The reckoning of years tells that the Host of Valinor breaks Thangorodrim and overthrows Morgoth to end the First Age, that many Noldor go back into the Far West to dwell in Eressëa, in view of it, and that Ar-Pharazôn of Númenor assails it.
