King of Durin's Folk and lord of Erebor, son of Dain I and brother to Fror and Gror, father of Thrain II and grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield. His early years were spent in the Ered Mithrin, which dragons had made no safe country for Dwarves, and it was from there that his house came south to the Lonely Mountain. He ruled with honour and with pride, and he held one of the Seven Rings that had been given to the Dwarf-lords. He kept great wealth as well, and spent long hours among it.
