Thráin II

Thráin II is a Dwarf of Durin's Folk, son of Thrór, King under the Mountain, and a direct descendant of Durin the Deathless. He is born in the Lonely Mountain while his people still hold it, and he has three children, Thorin, Frerin and Dís. When the dragon comes down on Erebor in the year 2770 of the Third Age, Thráin escapes with his father, his children and the survivors, and the exiles wander south until they settle among the hills of Dunland, where they live poor for twenty years. Before Thrór leaves them to go wandering with his old companion Nár, he gives into Thráin's keeping a Ring of Power and the map and key to the secret side-door of the Mountain.
