Thorin's axe

Thorin Oakenshield carries an axe on the road to the Lonely Mountain. The film adaptations give it a long steel handle and a single triangular blade set at the top, cut through with an angular hole and worked in the sharp-angled style the Dwarves favour, so that it reads at a glance as a throwing axe. The handle is long enough that Thorin can lean on it as a walking stick while the company crosses the mountains.
