Silima was the material Fëanor used, together with the light of the Two Trees of Valinor, to make the Silmarils. What went into it nobody but Fëanor ever knew. It looked like the crystal of diamond but was stronger than adamant, and it shone by its own composition. It was said that no violence in all the Kingdom of Arda could mar it or break it, though that may hold only against the strength of Elves and Men, and not against the power the Valar wield.
