Sea of Rhûn

The Sea of Rhûn is a great inland sea in the east of Middle-earth, lying in the western part of the land of Rhûn, east of Rhovanion and north of Mordor. Two rivers feed it, the Running that comes down from the Lonely Mountain and the Redwater out of the Iron Hills, and a small wooded island stands in its waters. Highlands rise on its south-western side and a beech forest grows on the north-east. North-west of it lies Dorwinion, a country of great gardens and vineyards whose wines are known far off. The wild white Kine of Araw graze about its shores; the Great Horn of Gondor was made from the horn of one of them, hunted by Vorondil, a Steward of that realm. At the height of Gondor's power under King Hyarmendacil the eastern bound of the kingdom reached this sea.
