Rómendacil II

Rómendacil II is a king of Gondor in the appendices to The Lord of the Rings, born in the year 1126 of the Third Age under the name Minalcar. He is the son of King Calmacil and the elder brother of Calimehtar. Power comes to him early, because his uncle Narmacil I prefers to spend his days in pleasure rather than in governing, and from 1240 Minalcar rules as Regent of the realm. In that office he strikes hard at the Easterlings, beating them near the Sea of Rhûn in 1248, and he makes pacts with the Northmen of Rhovanion. When the crown comes to him at last he takes the name Rómendacil, East-victor, as a distant forefather had done. The Argonath, the two vast pillars of the Kings that stand above Nen Hithoel on Anduin, are his work. To bind the northern alliance he sends his son Valacar north as an ambassador, and there Valacar marries Vidumavi, daughter of Vidugavia of Rhovanion.
