Rhûn

Rhûn is the great eastern region of Middle-earth, called simply the East or the Eastlands in the common speech, and it lies past the edge of most maps of the west-lands. Only its western part is drawn: the wide inland Sea of Rhûn, with the River Running coming down into it from the north-west, a forest on its north-eastern side, and the wild white Kine of Araw grazing near the water. Khand and Mordor lie along its southern border. Further east are the oldest places in the histories of The Silmarillion, Cuiviénen beside the Sea of Helcar, where the Elves awoke, and Hildórien, where Men awoke. Four of the Dwarf-kindreds, the Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Blacklocks and Stonefoots, hold kingdoms under those eastern mountains. The Men of the country are the Easterlings, many peoples rather than one, often at war with each other and long under the sway of the Dark Lords.
