Seven Seeing-stones of Numenor, dark spheres of a glass-like stone that show distant places to whoever has the right to look in them. The Noldor made them in Eldamar in the Years of the Trees, likely by the hand of Feanor, and gave them to the Faithful of Numenor, whose heirs carried seven east and set them in guarded towers of Arnor and Gondor: Annuminas, Amon Sul and Elostirion in the north, Osgiliath, Orthanc, Minas Ithil and Minas Anor in the south. A stone carries no sound, only sight and the thought its user means to send. The smaller ones look in fixed directions, so a watcher stands on the side opposite what he wishes to see, and two stones in converse show blank to any third.
