Ormal

Ormal was one of the Two Lamps, the first great lights of Arda. When the Valar had come into the world and set the seas and the lands and the mountains in order and put down the fires of Melkor, there was need of light, and Aulë forged two lamps at Yavanna's asking. Varda filled them and Manwë hallowed them, and they were raised upon pillars: Illuin in the furthest north upon the pillar of Helcar, and Ormal in the deepest south upon the pillar of Ringil. Where the two lights met and mingled, in the middle of Arda, lay the Isle of Almaren in the Great Lake, and there the Valar dwelt. An older account holds that Melkor had a hand in the making of the lamps.
