Order of Wizards
The five wizards sent over the Sea by the Valar early in the Third Age, walking as old men with a staff and a colour apiece, forbidden to rule the Free Peoples or to answer the Enemy with power.
Five wizards came into Middle-earth around the year 1000 of the Third Age, sent over the Sea by the Valar when it grew plain that Sauron was gathering strength again. They walk in the shape of old men who never seem to age further, each with a staff and a colour to his name, and they are forbidden to meet the Enemy power with power or to rule the Free Peoples; their work is counsel. Saruman the White is reckoned the chief of them and heads the White Council. Gandalf the Grey keeps company with Elves, Dwarves and Men. Radagast the Brown cares for beasts and growing things and dwells long in Mirkwood. Two more, called the Blue Wizards, went away into the east and little is set down of them.
