A great necklace of five hundred emeralds, green as grass, that belonged to Girion, Lord of Dale, and was possibly made by the Men of that city. Girion had wanted a mail coat of pure silver rings from the Dwarves of Erebor, one as strong as thrice-forged steel, and he meant it for his eldest son. The Dwarves made it for him, and the necklace was what he gave in return. It went into the Mountain with the rest of Erebor's wealth, and Thorin's people still counted it among the treasures they remembered from the old days.
