Narsil

Narsil is a longsword of the Dúnedain, forged in the First Age by Telchar of Nogrod, the Dwarf-smith whose work also included the knife Angrist. Nothing is recorded of its keepers through the long years of Númenor beyond that it came at last to the Lords of Andúnië, and so to Elendil. He bears it in the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron, and it breaks in that war; with the shard left in his hand, his son Isildur cuts the One Ring from the Dark Lord's finger. Afterwards it is called the Sword of Elendil, or the Sword-that-was-Broken, and its shards are kept as one of the heirlooms of the Kings of Arnor and, when the Northern Kingdom is gone, of the Chieftains of the Dúnedain.
