Náin II

Náin II ruled Durin's Folk out of the Grey Mountains, having succeeded his father Óin in the year 2488 of the Third Age. His people lived quietly in the mountains for most of the reign, but the Watchful Peace had run out by then and trouble was gathering from the west and from the north. In his last years dragons came down out of the northern wastes and made war on the Dwarves. He died at two hundred and forty-seven and his son Dáin I took the kingship. A younger son, Borin, was the ancestor of several of the dwarves who later kept company with Thorin Oakenshield.
