Mountain-dwelling trolls of Middle-earth, either a breed larger than hill-trolls or another name for them, mountain-trolls were remembered for the heaviest labours of war.
Some of the mountains of Middle-earth were held to be the dwelling of mountain-trolls, a name that may have marked a breed larger than the hill-trolls or may simply have been another word for the same creatures; the loremasters do not say. Like all their kind they were beings of great size and strength, and it was for the heaviest labours of war that their name entered the records of the late Third Age.
