Malbeth the Seer was a Dúnadan of Arnor and a royal counsellor of Arthedain in the days of the kings Araphant and Arvedui, and he was known, as his name says, for the sight of a seer. When Araphant's son was born in the year 1864 of the Third Age, Malbeth persuaded the king to name the child Arvedui, which means last king. He foretold that the boy would either change his name and rule a great realm, or else that many lives of men would pass before the same chance came round again.
