Maggot's Lane was a road in the Marish, the low country of the eastern Shire, running to the farmstead of the Maggot family. It broke away from the main road about five miles south of Ferry Lane and ran a mile and a half from the Causeway to the farm, with hedges closing it in near the buildings. Farmer Maggot or one of his forebears may have laid it in the thirteenth century of the Third Age, when the family first took up farming there.
