Lúthien

Under the stars of the Elder Days, The Silmarillion tells of Lúthien, called Tinúviel, the nightingale. She is the daughter of Elu Thingol, king of Doriath, and of Melian of the divine race of the Maiar, and the songs of the Elves account her the fairest of all the Children of Ilúvatar. Her singing in the woods of her father's guarded kingdom is a wonder of the age, and enchantment runs in her blood from her mother. Her story joins with that of Beren, a mortal Man who wanders into Doriath, and the love between them crosses the oldest division in the legendarium, the parting of Elf and mortal. The tale of Beren and Lúthien stands at the heart of The Silmarillion, and its echoes run in songs and names through all the ages of Middle-earth, into The Lord of the Rings itself.
