Lothlórien
Lothlórien is the hidden forest realm of the Galadhrim in The Fellowship of the Ring, the Golden Wood east of the Misty Mountains where mallorn trees grow and Celeborn and Galadriel keep an ancient peace.
East of the Misty Mountains, where the Silverlode runs down toward the Great River, The Fellowship of the Ring hides a country out of an elder world. Lothlórien is the Golden Wood, realm of the Galadhrim, the tree-people over whom the Lady Galadriel and the Lord Celeborn preside. Its mallorn trees carry golden leaves through winter on boughs of silver-grey, and the Elves live high among them on platforms reached by long ladders, with their chief city at Caras Galadhon. A power in the land keeps decay and darkness out, so that walking there feels like stepping inside a song about the morning of the world. Outsiders tell nervous tales of the Golden Wood and its mistress, and few enter it; those who do, and come with good will, find rest and welcome beneath trees no other country can match.
