King of Arthedain
King of Arthedain was the title made when Arnor split into three realms in the year 861 of the Third Age.
When Arnor broke apart after the death of Eärendur, his three sons quarrelled over the succession and made a war of it, and out of that wreck came the title King of Arthedain in the year 861 of the Third Age. Amlaith the eldest claimed the throne of Arnor entire but held only Arthedain, ruling from Fornost, while his brothers founded Cardolan and Rhudaur. The kings who came after him tried more than once to put the North-kingdom back together. Argeleb I got as far as making his authority felt in Cardolan, but corruption inside the three realms and the long war with Angmar kept Arnor divided.
