Twenty-second Thain of the Shire, Isengrim II Took took office in TA 2683 and began the first major work on the Great Smials in the Green Hill Country.
Isengrim II Took was a Hobbit of the Shire and the twenty-second Thain. He came to the office in TA 2683, and in that same year he began the first major work on the Great Smials in the Green Hill Country, where the Took clan lived and where the Thains were seated. The Shire Reckoning, by which the Shire kept its own years, was devised during his time in office. He held the Thainship until his death in TA 2722, when it passed to his son Isumbras III.
