A ship of Númenor, built and sailed by Aldarion and so large that onlookers called her Turuphanto, the Wooden Whale.
Hirilondë was a ship built by Aldarion of Númenor, who sailed in her himself. She was so large that people who saw her wondered at the size and called her Turuphanto, the Wooden Whale. Her first voyage put out from Rómenna. Later, when Aldarion had come to the kingship, he sailed in her again for Mithlond in Middle-earth, and her prow by then carried the image of an eagle with a golden beak and jewelled eyes, a gift from Círdan.
