Half-elves
The Peredhil, in whom Edain and Eldarin blood run together.
Peredhil in Sindarin, Pareldar in Quenya: those in whom the blood of the Edain and of the Eldar runs together. Two marriages of the First Age made them. Beren of the House of Beor wed Luthien, daughter of Thingol of Doriath and of Melian the Maia, and Tuor of the House of Hador wed Idril of Gondolin. From the second line came Earendil, who took to wife Elwing, great-granddaughter of Beren and Luthien. Half-elves come slowly to their growth, keep their youth long and live far beyond the span of Men. At the close of the First Age the Valar set a choice before them: to be numbered with the Eldar and deathless, or with Men and take the gift that is given to Men. The first two generations had that choice; the third did not, and follow their forebears.
