Gorhendad Oldbuck led the crossing of the Brandywine River in TA 2340 and settled the country beyond it.
Gorhendad Oldbuck was a Hobbit of the Shire, head of the Oldbuck line and the eleventh Shire-thain to come from it. In TA 2340 he led the colonization of the country across the Brandywine River, and marked the move by taking a new family name, Brandybuck. He built and excavated Brandy Hall there, and the fresh name and title together brought his house wealth and prestige. He was the first Master of Buckland, an office that passed at his death to his son Gormadoc.
