Fredegar Bolger, called Fatty, is a hobbit of the Shire in The Fellowship of the Ring, son of Odovacar Bolger and Rosamunda Took and a close friend of Frodo Baggins.
Fredegar Bolger, called Fatty, is a hobbit of the Shire and one of Frodo Baggins's close friends. He is the son of Odovacar Bolger and Rosamunda Took, and through her a descendant of the Old Took; his younger sister is Estella. Fredegar is one of the few let in on Frodo's plan to leave Hobbiton. He goes ahead by the road with the last cartload of Frodo's belongings to the new house at Crickhollow, and it is he who has the door open and the bath water hot when the others arrive. He agrees to stay on there and keep up the appearance that Frodo is still in residence. The Old Forest, though, he will not enter: the tales about it frighten him, and he goes no further than the tunnel in the Hedge.
