Forodwaith
The Northern Waste across the top of Middle-earth, a polar tundra running east to the Orocarni, shaped when the Iron Mountains were thrown down.
The Northerland, also called the Northern Waste: the immense cold country across the top of Middle-earth, running from the western sea to the northern peaks of the Orocarni in the east, where no month averages fifty degrees. It took its present shape after the War of Wrath, when most of the Iron Mountains were thrown down; the land shut behind those mountains before that was Dor-na-Daerachas. The stretch lying directly north of Eriador is Forochel, with its great icebay and cape. The same name, Forodwaith, is used of the people who live there, who seem to have no kinship at all with the Edain.
