Finwë

Finwë is the first King of the Noldor, and in The Silmarillion he stands at the head of the greatest of the Elven houses. He awakes at Cuiviénen in the far east of Middle-earth during the Years of the Trees. When the Vala Oromë finds the Elves and urges them west, they hesitate, and three ambassadors are chosen to go ahead and see the Blessed Realm for themselves: Ingwë for the Vanyar, Elwë for the Teleri and Finwë for the Noldor. What he sees convinces him, and on his return his account helps set the Great Journey in motion. He leads his people west and rules them in Valinor as their High King. Between him and Elwë there is a long friendship. From his marriages, first to Míriel and afterwards to Indis of the Vanyar, come the three houses of Fëanor, Fingolfin and Finarfin.
