Éomer
Éomer is a marshal of Rohan in The Two Towers, sister-son of King Théoden, a tall young leader of Riders who patrols the wide grasslands of the Mark in a time of war on its borders.
Out of the grasslands of Rohan rides a troop of spearmen, and at their head a tall young man with a white horsetail on his helm. Éomer son of Éomund is the Third Marshal of the Riddermark, sister-son of King Théoden, charged with guarding the eastern marches in a time when orcs and other raiders cross the borders unpunished. He is forthright to the point of bluntness, proud of his people, and torn between standing orders and his own judgment of what honor requires. His riders, an éored of the Mark, are devoted to him. He shows the younger strength of Rohan: a commander shaped by open country, plain speech, and war, standing at the shoulder of an aging king.
