Ents
Ents are the shepherds of the trees in The Two Towers, an old race of giant tree-like beings who guard the forests of Middle-earth.
The Two Towers introduces a people older than almost any other walking thing in Middle-earth. Ents are the shepherds of the trees, giant beings some fourteen feet high, with bark-like skin, deep unhurried eyes, and limbs more like trunk and bough than flesh, guardians of the forests from the elder days of the world. They are slow by choice, taking hours over greetings, for in their own tongue nothing is worth saying unless it is worth a long time in the saying. Fangorn Forest, under the eastern feet of the Misty Mountains, shelters those who remain, and the oldest among them shares the forest's name. Elvish loremasters call them Onodrim, and rumors of walking trees reach even the Shire's firesides. To meet an Ent is to find the old tales standing alive and talking.
