Eldar
The Eldar are the Elves of the Great Journey in The Silmarillion, the kindreds who set out from Cuiviénen toward the light of Valinor in the West: the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the Teleri.
The Silmarillion divides the Elves by a single ancient choice. The Eldar are those who answer the summons of the Valar and set out from Cuiviénen, the water of their awakening in the far East, on the Great Journey toward the light of the West. Three kindreds take the road, the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the numerous Teleri, each with its own leaders and gifts. Some turn aside or linger on the way, and from the sundering of that long march come the many Elven peoples of the histories, speaking their related tongues. In the usage of the loremasters the word names the People of the Stars, and it is as the Eldar that the High Elves and their kin pass into the songs and memories of The Lord of the Rings, where their kind is already growing rare.
