East-West Road
The East-West Road runs the width of Eriador from the Tower Hills to the High Pass, laid by the Dwarves and later kept up by Arnor.
One road runs the width of Eriador, from the Tower Hills in the west to the High Pass over the Misty Mountains in the east, and the Dwarves laid it. In the First Age it reached further still, crossing Gelion at Sarn Athrad and passing under the shoulder of Mount Dolmed to link Nogrod and Belegost with Khazad-dûm and the east. What survives is the middle of it. Arnor kept the Eriador stretch in repair, bridged the Brandywine and the Hoarwell, and set watchtowers along the line of it. By the end of the Third Age the only part in steady use is the piece crossing the Shire, where it is simply the Road and the traffic on it is local.
