Dwarven weapons and armor
Dwarf war gear is built for close quarters: the axe above all, thick short swords, war picks, two handed hammers, and mail worked so fine that their helms carry forged masks across the face.
Dwarves arm themselves for close work in narrow places, and their gear follows the shape of the folk who carry it. The axe comes first, short in the haft and heavy in the head. Swords are made thick and stocky, since a blade long enough for a Man would be unwieldy for a Dwarf and a Dwarf-sword in a Man's hand is a dagger. The war pick, or mattock, serves as tool and weapon both, and the battle hammer is built on a long wooden shaft with a brick shaped head that takes two hands to swing. Bows of horn and of laminated wood turn up among them as well, which few outside their halls expect. Their greater renown is in armour: rings of iron and steel mail worked finer than the smiths of Men can manage, with helms whose forged masks cover the face.
