Dwarf realms run from the Blue Mountains to the Orocarni in the far east, founded where a Father of the Dwarves woke or where the digging was good.

Dwarves build inside mountains, and where the stone is good they stay for thousands of years. Their mansions run from the Blue Mountains in the west to the Orocarni in the far east, most of them founded where one of the Seven Fathers first woke or where a vein of something worth digging ran deep. Khazad-dûm under the Misty Mountains was the greatest of them, home of the Longbeards and later of the Firebeards and Broadbeams as well. Belegost and Nogrod stood in the Blue Mountains, Erebor and the Iron Hills lay north and east, and four clans held halls in the eastern ranges of whom only the clan names survive. Very few of these realms were given up by choice.
