Dwalin

Dwalin is a Dwarf of Durin's Folk and one of the thirteen who set out with Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit. He is the son of Fundin and the younger brother of Balin, born in the year 2772 of the Third Age, two years after the dragon took the Lonely Mountain, and at twenty-seven he fought in the battle at Azanulbizar before going with Thráin and Thorin to settle in the northern Blue Mountains. He is the first of the company to reach Bag End on the evening of the unexpected party, in a dark-green hood with a gold belt, and he walks in as though he had been asked. When the Dwarves fill the hobbit-hole with music he plays a viol as big as himself, and it is Dwalin who lends Bilbo a hood and cloak for the road.
