Denethor II

Denethor II is the twenty-sixth Ruling Steward of Gondor and Lord of Minas Tirith, the third child and only son of Ecthelion II, whom he succeeds in the year 2984 of the Third Age. In him the blood of Númenor runs truer than in any man of Gondor for generations. He is proud, subtle and often scornful, deeply read in the lore of his realm, and it is said that he can perceive the thoughts of men even at a distance, so that he is hard to deceive and dangerous to try. In 2976 he married Finduilas of Dol Amroth, daughter of Prince Adrahil, and they have two sons, Boromir and Faramir. Under his stewardship Gandalf finds a colder welcome in Minas Tirith than of old, and his counsel goes unheeded.
