The heirloom arrow of the Lords of Dale, forged beneath Erebor in the days of Thror and carried out of the ruin of Dale by Girion's family.
An heirloom of the Lords of Dale, forged in the deeps beneath Erebor sometime after the year 2589 of the Third Age, in the days when Thror was King under the Mountain. How a Lord of Dale came by it from the Dwarves is nowhere recorded, but it stayed in that house afterwards. When Smaug took the Mountain in 2770, the family of Girion escaped down the River Running and carried the arrow away with them, and in time it came to Bard, captain of the archers of Lake-town. Whether it held any virtue beyond good making is unknown. Bard's own account of it was that it had never failed him, never broken, and always come back to his hand.
