Beren of Gondor
Beren of Gondor is the nineteenth Ruling Steward of Gondor in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, son of Egalmoth of the House of Húrin, whose term of office falls in a time of storms and sea-raids.
Among the rulers listed in the appendices of The Return of the King stands a steward who shares his name with a figure of the Elder Days. Beren of Gondor is the nineteenth Ruling Steward, son of Egalmoth of the House of Húrin, holding the rule of the South-kingdom in the twenty-eighth century of the Third Age. The realm he governs is long past its height, keeping watch on many frontiers with thinning strength. His stewardship is remembered for hardship from sea and sky alike, with fierce storms and raids by the Corsairs of Umbar falling in his time. The annals also record one quieter act: it is Beren who grants the wizard Saruman the keys of Orthanc, receiving him as a warden for Gondor in the ancient fastness of Isengard.
