Beleg of Arthedain

Beleg was the second King of Arthedain, son and heir of Amlaith, and he took the throne when his father died in the year 946 of the Third Age. His reign ran eighty-three years and is remembered less for what he did in it than for what happened during it. Hobbits were first seen west of the Misty Mountains in those years, crossing into Eriador, most of them Harfoots. In the same reign a dark power came back to the western lands and settled at Dol Guldur, where it was known then only as the Necromancer.
