Arwen

Frodo's first evening in the house of Elrond in The Fellowship of the Ring includes a sight he does not forget: a dark-haired Elven lady seated under a canopy, grave and fair beyond the measure of mortal lands. Arwen is the daughter of Elrond Half-elven, called Undómiel, the Evenstar of her people. Much of her long life has passed in Lothlórien among her mother's kin, and she has lately come home to her father's house across the mountains. In her, the Elves say, the likeness of Lúthien of the Elder Days walks the world again, and like her father she carries the mingled blood of Elves and Men out of the deep past. Quiet at the edge of great events, she presides with Elrond over one of the last high Elven households east of the Sea.
