Angmar is a cold realm of the far North in The Lord of the Rings, seated at Carn Dûm under a sorcerer king.

Old terrors, from barrow-wights to broken towers, trace back to a name out of the frozen North. Angmar is the witch-realm at the northern ends of the Misty Mountains, seated at Carn Dûm, a kingdom raised in the middle years of the Third Age under a king with powers of sorcery. Its purpose is war: age after age it sends dread and armies against the divided realms of the Dúnedain in Eriador. The old tales remember that long struggle, in which the North Kingdom is worn away; the Shire itself recalls sending bowmen to those far-off wars. The empty, haunted quality of the northern lands through which travelers walk is Angmar's work, and its name still carries a chill centuries after its armies passed.
