Eol the Dark Elf forged Anglachel from a fallen star and gave it to Thingol as payment for Nan Elmoth.
Wrought by Eol the Dark Elf from iron that fell from heaven as a flaming star, the sword Anglachel had a mate, Anguirel, made of the same meteorite. Eol gave Anglachel to Thingol of Doriath as payment for leave to dwell in Nan Elmoth, though he did not relish giving it away. Melian warned that the smith's malice remained in the blade, and indeed something of Eol's spirit seemed poured into it: a fierce, bloodthirsty temper and a will of its own.
