Almaren was an island in the Great Lake at the middle of Arda and the first home of the Valar, raised before the Years of the Trees where the light of the Two Lamps mingled.
Almaren, called also the Isle of Almaren, stood in the Great Lake at the middle of Arda and was the first dwelling of the Valar. It was raised after Melkor withdrew from the world, when the earth had grown firm and flat, and the light of the Two Lamps met and mingled above it. Of the island's own landscape almost nothing is recorded, except that green grass covered it.
