Parallel World

The setting of KonoSuba is known, with bureaucratic plainness, as the Parallel World. It is a fantasy world built on role-playing game logic, complete with classes, levels, skills, and quests, and it lives under the long shadow of the Devil King. Fear of the monsters runs so deep that the local dead refuse to reincarnate at home, so the gods import replacements: they recruit the dead of other worlds, Japan above all, memories intact and one cheat gift of their choosing in hand, and point them at the Devil King. Daily life resembles the late Middle Ages, with feudal lords, guilds for adventurers and merchants, and the Eris Church as the mainstream faith, but generations of reincarnated Japanese have salted the place with public baths, board games, casinos, and other suspiciously modern comforts. The local language downloads directly into a new arrival's brain.
