The Newcomers are the alliance of tributes formed during the 50th Hunger Games in Sunrise on the Reaping, built to stand against the Career pack. The idea belongs to Ampert, the boy from District 3, who reasons that if the non-Career districts allied the way Districts 1, 2, and 4 always do, the odds even out and the Careers cannot pick the field off one district at a time. He secures Districts 7 and 8 first, then District 11, and District 12 joins after Haymitch Abernathy and Maysilee Donner step in for the District 6 tributes the Careers have been bullying. The group settles on the name Newcomers and trains together for the rest of the sessions, outnumbering the Career pack two to one.
