Madge Undersee is a quiet girl in Katniss's year at school who, like Katniss, keeps to herself.
Katniss and Gale sell strawberries at the mayor's back door, and on reaping day his daughter Madge answers in an expensive white dress with a pink ribbon in her blonde hair. When Gale needles her over how few times her name is entered, her face closes off, though she still wishes Katniss luck. After the reaping she comes to Katniss with urgent purpose and pins a small gold bird on her dress, making her promise to wear it into the arena.
